What is ashlar stone?
Our company name derives from a type of masonry. Ashlar can be defined as a type of stone which is finely cut and/or worked, and is characterised by its smooth, even faces and square edges.
Ashlar masonry is sawn on six sides, creating a fine finish which is suitable for smaller 5mm joints when walling. Sandstone Ashlar masonry is a very high quality finish which is often used on traditional buildings as well as contemporary designs. However as a business, as well as the traditional Ashlar walling stone, we also supply Premium Sawn Paving, Dressed Walling, Tumbled Setts, Bullnose Steps, Monumental Masonry and more!
All of our products are made from sandstone quarried in West Yorkshire, which is then manufactured to your specific requirements within a couple of 100 meters of the quarry face.
our STONE CHARACTERistics
The Yorkstone from our own quarry, Branshaw, is unique from other quarries within the area. It is pale grey in colour with some hints of buff. The natural formation of the sandstone gives a dappled pattern which varies block to block, becoming more pronounced when wet. The stone has a modern and contemporary look, yet still holds the hard wearing characteristics of natural Yorkstone.
Petrographic Description
